Both Ian Fleming and James Bond aficionados will be very pleased: Bond movie no. 25 plans to shoot in Jamaica.
In many ways it is the Caribbean Island that gave birth to James Bond, as it was 007 creator Ian Fleming’s annual writing retreat, where he could pen his latest spy adventure for the world’s most famous secret agent, and also enjoy a daily routine of swimming, beach-combing, relaxing in the sun and entertaining his close friends and neighbours on the Island, such as Noel Coward.
The James Bond film series, starting with Dr. No in 1962, has also made good use of Fleming’s favourite location. It now appears that Bond 25 will be returning to 007’s traditional haunt. According to the showbiz writer Baz Bamigboye, writing in his regular gossip column in the UK’s Daily Mail (March 8th), director Cary Fukunaga and the Bond team plan to conduct some principal photography for the new 007 movie in Jamaica.
In a further piece of interesting news, Bamigboye has also revealed that the director and a small crew ‘are heading to Norway to shoot on a frozen lake before it thaws’, and the footage will apparently be incorporated into the pre-credit scenes for the new 007 adventure, which will be Daniel Craig’s fifth adventure as Fleming’s hero.
Interestingly, Bamiboye appears to suggest that an element left over from the Danny Boyle tenureship is being utilised: he notes Danny Boyle had wanted to film an iced-over lake in Canada. Bamiboye added: ‘The latest version of the screenplay is still being written’.
